On July 15, the UQ - JLU Research Symposium was held at the University of Queensland (UQ). President Zhang Xi of Jilin University (JLU) was invited to give a keynote lecture at the opening ceremony entitled "Supermolecule Free Radicals: Active Regulation and Functioning", and the President and Vice-Chancellor of the UQ, Peter H∅j, delivered a welcome address on behalf of UQ. The opening ceremony was hosted by Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) of UQ, Rongyu Li.
A delegation of 9 professors from the Internatational Center of Future Science (ICFS), JLU led by Professor Yu Jihong, Director of ICFS, and professors from the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), the Faculty of Science, UQ participated in the session on the theme of "Future Materials" . They had in-depth discussions in the fields of porous and nano functional materials, organic optoelectronic materials, photocatalytic materials, biomimetic materials, supramolecular self-assembly, etc.
On the evening of July 15, Zhang Xi and Peter H∅j signed the “Jilin University-University of Queensland Joint Center Agreement” to establish a Joint Research Centre for Future Materials on behalf of the two universities. Under the framework of the Joint Research Centre for Future Materials, the two sides held discussions on the management of the joint Research Center, and made a workable plan for future collaboration.
The Joint Research Centre for Future Materials is jointly managed by Professor Alan Rowan, Director of the AIBN, and Academician Yu Jihong of JLU. Focusing on materials chemistry and engineering, hard nanomaterials, polymer and synthetic materials science, adaptive materials, integrated energy materials and computational materials science, the Centre encourages the exchange of staff and students between the two universities, promotes joint student training, scholarships and student exchange within the Centre for Higher Degree Research and post-doctoral students, encourages to pursue and organize joint conferences and workshops through the Centre, to pursue joint funding opportunities in the Centre areas and joint publications.
