The 2026 Jilin University–University of Queensland (UQ) Symposium on Future Materials was held from July 12 to 15 at the International Center of Future Science, Jilin University. The event brought together more than forty scholars and graduate students from the fields of chemistry, electronics, and biology, etc. It was organized under the JLU‑UQ Joint Research Center for Future Materials.

The symposium covered interdisciplinary frontiers including energy and environmental materials, smart and adaptive materials, precision medicine, and multiscale simulation techniques. Specific topics discussed included novel zeolite structure design, computational simulation of complex molecular systems, hydrogel‑based Raman sensing, semiconductor optoelectronic materials and devices, seawater catalysis, wearable gas sensors, antimicrobial polymer coatings, disease‑related transporter‑targeted therapy, and targeted molecular probes for imaging. The program featured academic presentations, poster session, and group discussions.


On July 14, the “Interdisciplinary Innovation Poster Day” was held at Building 1 of the ICFS, with more than twenty doctoral students from both universities presenting their work through short oral presentations and posters.


Participants also visited ICFS laboratories, the Translational Medicine Research Institute at the First Hospital of Jilin University and college of Chemistry. The UQ delegation held seperate group discussions with faculty members to explore potential collaborations.
The symposium was the sixth in the bilateral series. In 2025, the two universities were jointly awarded the 2026 Innovation‑Oriented International Talent Training Program by the China Scholarship Council, with a focus on future materials talent development.
